Dave Dahl | President, Dave’s Killer Bread

Dave Dahl

Dave Dahl is the son of healthy baking pioneer James Dahl, founder of the company now known as Dave’s Killer Bread/Naturebake. Dave suffered from self-described “mental illness” through his teens and beyond, turning to drugs and rejecting the family business. As a result, Dave would spend about 15 out of the next 20 years incarcerated for everything from methamphetamine distribution to armed robbery and assault. During his last prison stint, Dave re-trained his mind with the help of anti-depressants and educational opportunities. He was released from prison in December of 2004 with the conviction that he could do whatever he set his mind to. Within 6 months, Dave had designed 6 varieties of whole grain, organic bread, 4 of which were introduced to rave reviews in August of 2005 at Portland Farmers’ Market’s “Summer Loaf” artisan bread festival. Dave and his partners—brother Glenn and nephew Shobi—have been inspired “to make the world a better place, one loaf of bread at a time.” This means not only baking bread that is delicious, healthy and organic, but also always looking for ways to be more socially and environmentally responsible as well.

Chandra Brown | President, United Streetcar LLC

Chandra Brown

In August 2010 Chandra was appointed to serve on the US Manufacturing Council by Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke. In February 2010 she was appointed to the Oregon Business Development Commission and the Oregon Innovation Council by Oregon Governor Kulongoski with approval of the Oregon Senate. Ms. Brown has worked for Oregon Iron Works, Inc. (OIW) for over 15 years and is currently President of a newly created subsidiary of OIW called United Streetcar, dedicated to offering American built streetcars throughout the United States. She is also the primary point of contact for all Government Relations activities and she markets on behalf of OIW in the Pacific Northwest and Washington, D.C. She has assisted in raising OIW’s profile to be one of the 10 Overall Most Admired Companies in Oregon as published in the Portland Business Journal.

Sam Adams | Mayor, Portland, Oregon

Sam Adams

Mayor Sam Adams of Portland, Oregon was elected Mayor of Portland in May 2008 with 58% of the vote. Prior to being elected Mayor, Adams served as a Commissioner on the City Council for four years earning a reputation as a "policy-driven” advocate for sustainability, public transit, transportation planning, the arts, and gay rights. Adams gravitated to politics as a University of Oregon intern for Congressman Peter DeFazio where he stayed on staff until 1987. He then went to work for the Oregon House Democratic Campaign Committee and at that time the Democratic Majority Leader Carl Hosticka. Adams turned his focus to Portland in 1991, where he successfully managed Vera Katz’s first campaign for mayor. At age 29, he began the first of 11 years as the youngest mayoral chief of staff in the city’s history. As a City Commissioner, he was Commissioner in Charge of Portland’s Office of Transportation and the Bureau of Environmental Services, and council liaison to, among others, the Regional Arts & Culture Council, the Association of Portland Neighborhood Business Districts, and Worksystems, Incorporated. Today, Mayor Adams continues to tackle those political first ascents serving as Portland’s first openly gay City Commissioner and now, Mayor. In his new role as Mayor, Adams is the lead Council member on Economic Development, Planning and Sustainability, Education, Arts and Culture, and Transportation.

Kate Brown | Secretary of State, Oregon

Kate Brown

Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown was born in Torrejon de Ardoz, Spain, on June 21, 1960. After spending most of her childhood in Minnesota, Brown earned a B.A. in Environmental Conservation with a certificate in Womens Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She earned her law degree and Certificate in Environmental Law from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR. Brown has taught at Portland State University, and practiced family and juvenile law. She was appointed to the Oregon House of Representatives in 1991 and in 1996, after winning election to two more House terms, won election to the Oregon Senate. Two years later, she was elected Senate Democratic Leader and in 2004, senators made her the first woman to serve as Oregons Senate Majority Leader. In 2008, she was elected Oregons 24th Secretary of State and subsequently was appointed by Governor Kulongoski to chair the Oregon Sustainability Board.

Patrick Reiten | President of Pacific Power at PacifiCorp

Patrick Reiten

Reiten is responsible for delivering electricity safely and reliably to customers in Oregon, Washington and California, and also manages the Wests largest single owned and operated transmission system. Pacific Power is a 100 year old company serving 243 communities across the three states. Prior to joining PacifiCorp, Reiten was president and chief executive officer of PNGC Power, an energy cooperative located in Portland, Oregon. He was appointed to that position in May 2002 and was responsible for the overall operations of two corporate entities, PNGC Power and Power Resources Cooperative. Prior to PNGC Power, Reiten served as an aide to U.S. Sen. Mark O. Hatfield, handling issues associated with the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. He also was an official in several different capacities at the U.S. Department of Interior, including deputy director of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

Pete Kratz | Executive Vice President, Operations Harry & David Holdings, Inc.

Pete Kratz

Pete is Executive Vice President of Operations for Harry & David Holdings, Inc. which creates, produces, and markets premium foods under the Harry & David, Wolferman’s, Cushman’s, and Bear Creek Orchards brands. The company is headquartered in Medford, Oregon. Prior to joining Harry & David Holdings, Inc., Pete held positions at Sara Lee Bakery, Proctor & Gamble, and Pepperidge Farm Inc. He was born in Racine, Wisconsin, and grew up in the small town of Antigo, in northern Wisconsin. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and an Executive MBA from the University of New Haven. Pete is currently the incoming Chairman of the Board for the Oregon Business Association. He is a board member of the Oregon Sustainability Board, Associated Oregon Industries, and the Southern Oregon University Foundation.

Steve Hoyt McBeth | Project Manager, Portland Bureau of Transportation’s SmartTrips Business Project

Steve Hoyt-McBeth

Steve Hoyt-McBeth works with businesses to encourage commuters to walk, bike, carpool and ride transit. Steve has spent the last 12 years assisting local governments and community groups to develop sustainable programs and policies relating to transportation, land use, energy and public involvement. Steve is the project manager for Portland Bureau of Transportation’s SmartTrips Business project, which has provided 400 employers with sustainable transportation resources for their employees and customers. He also studies bike sharing for the City.

Darcy Winslow | Founder, DSW Collective

Darcy Winslow

Darcy Winslow has been a pioneer and active practitioner of sustainability frameworks and principles, exploring and experimenting with the application of these to all aspects of business. Darcy worked at Nike, Inc. for over 20 years and held several senior management positions within the business. She most recently served as General Manager for Nike’s Global Women’s Fitness Business and as Senior Advisor to the Nike Foundation, which seeks to empower disadvantaged girls ages 10 to 19 years, through poverty alleviation and creating economic livelihood opportunities. Winslow received her BS in exercise science and MS in exercise physiology and biomechanics, and is a 2003 graduate of the Stanford Executive Program. She currently serves on the Board of Advisors for World Pulse Media/Pulse Wire; Greenopolis; The Cloud Institute for Sustainability Education, and the Council for Responsible Sport. She serves on the Board of Directors for Ziba Design, Inc. and Board of Advisors for the Portland Metro Climate Prosperity Project.

Dr. Ann Widmer | Sustainability Chair, Widmer Brothers Brewing

Ann Widmer

Dr. Ann Widmer is Chair of the Sustainability Committee at Widmer Brothers Brewing, a “Portland Climate Champion” company. She is also a professor of Business at Concordia University where she teaches in the MBA program and directs Thesis and Internships. She has published three books in health administration that have won Outstanding Book of the Year awards. She serves on the Executive Committee for Widmer Brothers Brewing Company and numerous corporate and community boards including the Albina Opportunities Corps. In 1998, she was voted one of the Twenty Five Outstanding Business Women of the Year in Portland by the Oregon Business Journal.

Franklin Jones | Founder B-Line (Sustainable Urban Delivery)

The seeds for B-line were planted into Franklin’s life long before he knew it. Who knows where it all really began, perhaps somewhere in that lofty call to serve the Common Good instilled upon all Bowdoin College grads. A formal geneolgy of B-Line began with Franklin’s first “real” job out of school as a bicycle and pedestrian planner in Bend, OR for David Evans and Associates. The concept silently percolated over a thirteen-month, 10K bicycle trip from Japan to Ireland and then had some time to rest as Franklin entered a rewarding career in education as a sixth grade teacher in the SF Bay Area. In 2008, his entrepreneurial and adventurous spirit took over and Franklin departed sunny San Francisco for the greener pastures of Portland, OR. Never short on ideas to enhance the community around him, Franklin combined his interest in seeing how business can be a catalyst for social and environmental change with his love of cycling and founded B-Line. Franklin loves how when the right tool for the job is used, the right team steps up, and a day-to-day commitment towards a sustainable future is embedded in the culture of a company all stakeholders benefit–everybody wins. Rory Schmick | Sustainability Manager, Pacific Natural Foods

Rory Schmick

Rory Schmick is the Sustainability Manager for Pacific Natural Foods, a family-owned natural and organic foods company based in Tualatin, Oregon. In this capacity, he directs corporate practices that integrate social, environmental and economic considerations, including energy conservation and waste reduction initiatives. He has over 10 years of experience managing sustainability and environmental programs locally and internationally. An Oregon native, Rory is passionate about the diverse landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and serves on the Board of Directors of The Wetlands Conservancy.

David Van’t Hof | Partner, Lane Powell

David Van?t Hof

David Van’t Hof focuses his practice in the areas of sustainability, clean technology, renewable energy, green building and carbon regulation. David draws experience from his many years as a Sustainability Policy Advisor to Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski. In that capacity, he led the state’s participation in the Western Climate Initiative and in developing the state’s nationally recognized climate change and renewable energy policies. In private practice, David has advised clients on renewable energy, clean technology development and fi nancing as well as complex regulatory matters such as environmental and siting issues. He also assisted a variety of public and private clients with the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, water rights and water quality issues.

Bryce Yonker | Founder, Smart Grid Oregon

Bryce Yonker

Bryce serves on the Board for Smart Grid Oregon, a nonprofit association supporting smart grid companies and smart grid technology implementation in the state. Bryce is also Vice President of Business Development for the Software Association of Oregon, a nonprofit technology trade association. In this role Bryce has spearheaded many initiatives to support the tech community in the State including serving as the founder of the Clean Technology Alliance. Bryce upholds the key relationships with the organization’s constituent base of over 450 contributing companies and ensures valuable services exist for the ever progressing industry.

Jill Fuglister | Director, Coalition for a Livable Future

Jill Fuglister has devoted most of her career to working at the nexus between social justice and environmental issues to craft strategies that improve peoples lives, while protecting the environment. She is Co Director of Coalition for a Livable Future (CLF), and has directed the organization for 11 years. CLF unites over 100 diverse organizations, including nonprofits, businesses and governments, and hundreds of individuals to promote healthy and sustainable communities in the Portland-Vancouver metro area. Ms. Fuglister spearheaded CLFs groundbreaking Regional Equity Atlas Project, which combines research, organizing and advocacy to ensure equity is a prominent component of Portlands planning approach for a sustainable future. She has a Masters of Science in Environmental Studies from University of Oregon, and a Bachelors of Arts in Government from the University of Notre Dame.

Mark Frohnmayer | President, Arcimoto

Mark Frohnmayer

Mark graduated from UC Berkeley in 1996 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. After 11 years in the computer games industry and a successful exit from his first startup, GarageGames, Mark has turned his entrepreneurial energy towards sustainable business development in Oregon. His current endeavor, Arcimoto was founded in October 2007 to bring quality, affordable, sustainable vehicles to the masses and aims to be a major player in the new green transportation space. Mark served on the Oregon governors Alternate Fuel Vehicle Infrastructure Woking Group in 2009 and was peer selected as one of the Pacific Northwests clean technology Pivotal Leaders.

Nancy Hamilton | Oregon State Director, McKinstry

Nancy Hamilton

After moving to Portland, Nancy served as campaign manager of the successful Childrens Initiative, which provides over 10 million annually into programs designed to help children arrive at school ready to learn, provide safe and constructive after school alternatives for kids, and prevent child abuse and neglect and family violence. She also helped found HOPE – Help Out Public Education – and played an important role in the passage of Measure 26 48, which provided critical bridge funding for Multnomah County schools at a time when they were facing a staggering loss of class time, teacher layoffs and program cuts.

Bradley A. Zenger | Co-Founder, Pivotal Investments

Bradley A. Zenger

Prior to founding Pivotal Investments, Mr. Zenger was a sales, marketing and service executive and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in identifying new markets, building new businesses and driving global growth primarily in the technology markets. In 1997, he co-founded Pixelworks Inc., a fabless semiconductor company targeting the rapidly growing advanced display market. From inception, he led the marketing and sales efforts where he was responsible for identifying the initial market opportunity and entry strategy, developing key customer relationships and distribution channels leading to global revenues that reached 140 million in 2003 mainly in Asia. He hired and oversaw a global sales, marketing and applications support organization that spanned offices in China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and Europe. He was actively involved in several acquisitions including a company largely based in China.

Trey Senn | Executive Director of the Klamath County Economic Development Association (KCEDA)

Trey Senn

Mr. Senn has served as Executive Director of the Klamath County Economic Development Association (KCEDA) since 1993 and serves as professional staff to TEAM Klamath--a public private partnership (City, County, Chamber, OIT, etc) dedicated to enhanced economic development. An early advocate of Sustainability especially concerning Economic Development, he is serving his second term on The Oregon Sustainability Board and his first on the Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council. He is a past president of the Oregon Economic Development Association (OEDA)

Daniela Brod Cargill | Grey to Green Program Manager, City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services

Daniela Brod Cargill

Daniela leads the work of all the Grey to Green activities by facilitating communication, establishing target tracking systems, managing program budget, and facilitating and communicating decision-making regarding policy, budget, and schedule. Much of her work involves bringing together multiple federal mandates, ongoing demands on the bureau as a sanitary and stormwater utility, and the ever increasing interest in everything “green” into a cohesive management approach. She has lead a GIS-based prioritization effort for green infrastructure investments in the City and, with Bureau engineers, is working on Systems Planning based in principles of asset management with a focus on green assets and their “ecosystem services” benefits. She has a B.S. in Biology and Environmental Studies from Tufts University and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University.

Erik Andersson | Director, Economic Development, Pacific Power

Erik Andersson

In his 20-year career in economic development, Erik has worked in both the private and public sectors, on local, state and regional levels in New York, Washington State and Oregon. Prior to coming to Pacific Power in 2009, Erik was the Willamette Valley regional coordinator for the Governor’s Economic Revitalization Team. He has a B.Sci. degree in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University and an MBA from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He sits on the boards of the Oregon Infrastructure Finance Authority, Shorebank Enterprise Cascadia, the Northwest Wind Industry Alliance and is the current president of the Oregon Economic Development Association

Michelle Slater | Partner, Energy & Sustainability Team Leader, Miller Nash LLP

Michelle Slater

Michelle Slater assists companies and individual business owners with a variety of business matters and transactions. She is currently a member of the firm's business and mergers and acquisition team, international law team, and head of the firm's energy and sustainability industry team. As a member of the energy and sustainability team, Michelle represents project developers, independent power producers, and investors in renewable energy projects, including biomass, geothermal, solar, and wind, in the Pacific Northwest. Michelle advises on state and federal tax incentives and abatements, structuring and governance, financing matters, and general business and contract issues throughout the development cycle, drawing on her background in tax and complex business transactions.

Michael Hoffman | Senior Energy Analyst, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Michael Hoffman

Prior to joining PNNL’s Portland office he was a cofounder of a Smart Grid start up, Powermand and had worked for Bonneville Power Administration. At BPA Mike was responsible for implementing the BPA EnergyWeb concept, which included managing the Ashland Smart Homes demand response demonstration project, was the BPA Project Lead for the Pacific Northwest GridWise project and is a past board member of the Electricity Storage Association. He has 30 years of experience that covers domestic and international work in electric utility transmission, distribution and end use efficiency, project management at electric utilities, industrial process plants and technology innovation experience with fuel cells, energy storage, demand response and integration of wind resources.

Roman Gillen | President and CEO, Consumers Power, Inc.

Roman Gillen

Roman Gillen is the President and CEO for Consumers Power, Inc., an electric distribution cooperative serving 17,500 members (22,000 meters) in a 3,500 square mile service area across Lincoln, Benton, Linn, Polk, Marion, and Lane counties in Western Oregon. He came to work for CPI in 1986 as Director of Information Systems and became CEO in 2006.

John Thomas | Director of Technology Strategy, Intel Eco Technology Group

John Thomas

John Thomas, Director of Technology Strategy within Intel’s Eco Technology Group, helps lead the Intel Open Energy Initiative with a focus on residential demand response, home energy management and smart building technologies. John has more than 20 years’ high tech industry experience spanning multiple ICT sectors. His key messages involve educating and empowering consumers to make behavioral changes that save them money while reducing carbon emissions and peak loads for utilities. He also tends to focus on home energy management converging with the trends of the Internet and consumer electronics. John has been with Intel for more than 12 years in global marketing, business development, and market development roles spanning various industries. He holds a Business Administration BS, Marketing, with Honors from Indiana University School of Business.

Jay Raskin | Architect + Historic Preservation Program, Clatsop County

Jay Raskin

Jay Raskin, AIA is an architect on the Oregon Coast who became involved in historic preservation about 12 years ago with the restoration of the Hotel Elliott in Astoria, an 1924 hotel that had fallen on hard times and was resurrected into a successful upscale hotel. Since that time he worked other successful renovation projects of commercial projects in Astoria that have helped contribute to the economic renaissance of Astoria. Recognizing that historic preservation was playing a vital economic role in the community, Jay was instrumental in creating the Historic Preservation Program at Clatsop Community College, as well as the Columbia Pacific Preservation (CPP). The CPP is an umbrella advisory group that is tying together the various strands of the local economic cluster based on historic preservation. A recent success is the creation of the Guild, a grouping of craftspeople and design professionals who work in historic preservation.

Leslie E. Christian | Chief Investment Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Portfolio 21

Leslie has more than 35 years of experience in the investment field, including nine years in New York as a Director with Salomon Brothers Inc. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Washington and her MBA in Finance from the University of California, Berkeley. Leslie is Chair of the Board of Upstream 21 Corporation and Portfolio 21 Investments and serves on the RSF Social Finance Investment Advisory Committee.

Todd S. Liebow | Co-Founder, Thirteenth Avenue, LLC.

Todd S. Liebow

Todd is a commercial and industrial real estate appraiser and an Executive Shareholder in the firm of FirstService PGP Valuation Inc located in Portland, Oregon. Mr. Liebow's professional appraisal experience includes five years as a commercial and industrial appraiser for the Clackamas County Assessor's Office, in Oregon City, Oregon. Since 1983, Mr. Liebow has been in private practice with PGP Valuation Inc, specializing in valuation analysis for ad valorem tax assessment appeals and other forms of litigation. Mr. Liebow is a founding shareholder of Lewis and Clark Bank, a community bank in Oregon City, Oregon. He serves on their Board of Directors and is Chair of their Board Loan Committee and a member of the Corporate Governance Committee. Mr. Liebow is also a real estate investor and developer who has developed and designed several infill commercial buildings in the Portland area, with a focus on sustainable and earth friendly features.

Joe Barra | Director, Customer Energy Resources, Portland General Electric

Joe Barra

As director of customer energy resources for Portland General Electric, Joe Barra develops and manages customer programs and business opportunities for PGE in areas of renewable power, energy efficiency, and distributed resources such as solar and wind. Barra also is playing a leadership role in several of PGE’s “smart grid” initiatives including installing a network of electric vehicle charging stations across PGE’s service territory and developing a demand response program to help customers reduce their energy usage during peak demand times while lowering their electricity costs.

Colin Sears | Clean Tech Team Leader, Portland Development Commission

Colin Sears

Colin Sears leads the Clean Tech Team in the Business & Industry division at the Portland Development Commission. Since 2007, Mr. Sears has been at the forefront of the agency’s work to grow this sector of the economy, with an emphasis on the electric vehicle/energy storage, green development, and wind energy clusters. Since his arrival at PDC in 1999, he has worked closely on economic development projects and programs within several industry sectors including: activewear, bioscience, creative services, manufacturing and medical technology. His previous career experience includes economic research consulting in Maine and several years as a professional musician. His musical career includes stints as the drummer in punk bands Dag Nasty and the Marshes, and was a founding member of Fugazi. Mr. Sears holds a B.A. in history and a M.S. degree in geography with a specialization in economy and the environment, both from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Alan Hipolito | Executive Director, Verde

Alan Hipolito is Executive Director of Verde, a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation, is to improve the economic health of disadvantaged communities by creating environmental job training, employment, and entrepreneurial opportunities, fostering the connection between economic vitality and environmental protection and restoration.

Timothy W. Smith | Principal, SERA Architects

Tim Smith

Tim Smith is a Principal and Director of Urban Design and Planning for SERA Architects, a Portland, Oregon firm that offers integrated services in architecture, urban design, planning, and sustainability consulting. He is a registered architect and a certified planner with over 30 years of professional experience. His recent projects include the design of a new capital city for the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, Eco-Taipei: An Eco-city vision for Taipei, Taiwan, and the Portland State University Framework Plan. Tim is currently serving as urban design advisor to the City of San Francisco for the redevelopment of Treasure Island.

Claudia Plaza | Senior Program Manager Main Street, Urban Development Department

Claudia Plaza

Claudia Plaza has served as a Retail Specialist for the Portland Development Commission, the city of Portland’s urban development agency, for over six years. Currently, she is a member of the Community Economic Development team. As Coordinator of Portland Main Streets, Claudia is charged with establishing and implementing the new city program which places a focus on sustainability. She and her husband owned and operated several small businesses including a restaurant and jewelry store. Her prior experience includes more than ten years devoted to developing new retail concepts, resulting in more than 120 independent and corporate stores across the nation.

Shane Endicott | Founder and Executive Director, Our United Villages/ReBuilding Center

Shane Endicott is the Executive Director of Our United Villages. Shane co- founded Our United Villages and its first project, The ReBuilding Center, in 1997 with an all volunteer effort. Shane was born and raised in Oregon and is a strong advocate for socially and environmentally responsible practices throughout the region and beyond. Shane has spent the last 15 years engaged in a wide range of issues in sustainability include reducing waste to benefit our environment and using asset based approaches to strengthen communities.

Stacey Matney | Owner, Pie Footwear

Stacey Matney

Stacey is a Portland native and owner/founder of Pie Footwear an Eco-conscious shoe boutique in the heart of the Alberta Arts District. She worked in Operations Management for a local Engineering/Design firm for 8 years, prior to setting out on her own. In 2008, she opened Pie Footwear, with the idea that you can make a sustainable business out of your passion. Pie features the best in sustainable footwear for men & women, each brand carried in store is evaluated on its sustainability at the product and corporate level. Pie Footwear was honored as a finalist in the 2010 City of Portland BEST Sustainability Awards for the BEST Practices for Sustainability Very small company category. Matney is also an advocate for the promotion and success of locally owned small businesses. She has been the Co-Chair of the Alberta Street Business Association since 2009 and has recently helped the Alberta Business District become one of the first Portland Main Street Program recipients.

Mark Brady | Clean Tech Industry Strategist, Business Oregon

Mark Brady

Mark Brady is a Clean Tech Industry Strategist with Business Oregon, formerly the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department. Mark is responsible for promoting industries and practices that leverage sustainability as a competitive advantage and foster the wise use of natural resources. He is also responsible for helping to ensure state policies facilitate the adoption of sustainability principles. Particular focus areas are electric vehicles, energy storage devices, smart grid technologies and wave energy. In addition, Mark serves as the Sustainability Coordinator for the Department to implement sustainability measures within the departments own operations. Mark previously worked as the Director of the Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition, which is a public private partnership that works to reduce the amount of petroleum used in transportation. Prior to the Coalition, he worked for more than five years in environmental consulting. Mark has masters and bachelors degrees in engineering from Columbia University and University of Miami, respectively.

Megan Stein | BEST Business Center, Bureau of Planning and Sustainability

Megan Stein

Megan has been with the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability since 2004. In addition to outreach and partnership building, her work has focused on implementing programs that help businesses make sustainable behavior change. Megan manages the BEST Business Center, a one-stop shop for businesses in Portland that want to become greener and more profitable. She also manages Recycle at Work and Portland Composts, two programs helping businesses reduce their waste. Together, her team works with over 800 local businesses each year.

Bridget Cooke | Co-Founder + Executive Director Adelante Mujeres

Bridget Cooke

Bridget grew up on a farm in the foothills west of Yamhill where she continues work on oak savannah and upland prairie restoration projects with her husband Frank. In 2002 she co-founded Adelante Mujeres, a non-profit committed to the holistic education and empowerment of low-income Latina women and their families. As the organization’s Executive Director, Bridget and colleagues have designed innovative programs to further environmentally sustainable practices in farming and small business with Latino immigrants. In 2010 Adelante Mujeres was ranked number seven of Best Green Businesses in Oregon, and received one of five Anniversary grants from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation to honor founders of nonprofits and recognize “leaders who exemplify passion, dedication and the entrepreneurial spirit that has made their organizations succeed." Bridget holds Masters of Divinity and Education degrees and serves on the Advisory Board of Pacific University’s Center of Gender Equity and on the Metro Natural Areas Program Performance Oversight Committee. Previously Bridget lived in Chile for a number of years also engaged in non-profit community education projects.

This work includes helping organizations develop and implement comprehensive, integrated sustainability plans, and helping developers, designers and owners improve the sustainability of their buildings, campuses and infrastructure-scale projects. In addition to being passionate about food and food security, Lisa believes strongly that business leaders have a responsibility to the communities they serve. “New Seasons Market was founded on sustainable business practices. From our partnerships with local farmers and support for nonprofits, to our innovative staff healthcare programs and green building initiatives, we take an active role in our community.”

Tom Osdoba | Managing Director, Center for Sustainable Business Practices at the University of Oregon College of Business

Tom Osdoba

Tom Osdoba is a social entrepreneur and strategic advisor to help communities become more sustainable. He is the Managing Director of the Center for Sustainable Business Practices at the University of Oregon College of Business, and a consultant to numerous organizations that are advancing sustainability in North America. Tom has held senior leadership roles in two of North America’s leading cities on sustainability. As Sustainable Economic Development Manager for Portland, he created a framework for a sustainable regional economy, launched a collaborative, multi-sector sustainability institute, and created innovative clean energy investment strategies.

Margie Harris | Executive Director, Energy Trust of Oregon

Margie Harris

Margie began work in November 2001 as the first permanent Energy Trust staff member. Margie first began work in the field of energy conservation and renewable energy development at the time of the 1973 oil embargo. She helped craft Oregon's first energy conservation legislation and programs while working at the Oregon Department of Energy. Subsequently, Margie was the marketing and outreach director promoting renewable energy with the Western Solar Utilization Network (Western SUN). As assistant to former Portland Commissioner Mike Lindberg, Margie was instrumental in establishing the City of Portland's first energy policies and programs, including Portland Energy Conservation, Inc. (PECI). Prior to joining Energy Trust, Margie was a management consultant with Arthur Young & Company, finance and administration director for Portland Parks and Recreation and executive director of marketing and customer service at TriMet, Portland's regional transportation district.

Jamie Bainbridge | Advisory Council, Outdoor Eco-Index and Director of Fabric and Product Development, Nau Inc

Jamie has been in the product design and development field for the last 25 years working for companies that intrigued her because of the potential for innovation. Nike led Jamie to Portland 20 years ago where she led the apparel advanced innovation group. Jamie has since been at Nau from the beginning in 2006, surviving a bankruptcy, an economic collapse, a buyout and a rebirth all within the first three years of the company. As the person responsible for Nau’s sustainable materials development, Jamie became involved with the newly formed Outdoor Eco-Index effort within the Outdoor Industry Association to develop a consumer product index to help the companies in the outdoor industry to learn about the real impact of the products they were wanted to label as green.

Mike Roach | Founder, Paloma Clothing

Mike Roach

Mike Roach founded Paloma Clothing in 1975. Together with his wife and artist, Kim Osgood, they have run Paloma since 1981 as it has evolved from a business selling quality arts and crafts from overseas into a women' clothing, jewelry and accessories store featuring primarily goods made in the USA. Mike has been president of the Hillsdale Business and Professional Association for the past fifteen years. In 2004, Mike was the first retail business owner to join the board of the Sustainable Business Network of Portland (SBNP), the local chapter of the Business Alliance of Local Living Economies (BALLE). He served on that board until 2010. During that time, Mike was actively involved in SBNP's "Buy Local" campaign that helped the general public understand how supporting sustainable, locally-owned businesses is critical to the health of our local economy. The multi-year "Buy Local" campaign that preceded the current recession was instrumental in helping many of Portland's small businesses survive the past several years. In the midst of the 2008 recession, Paloma Clothing committed to a major upgrade of its lighting efficiency by purchasing over $3,500 in new LED and ceramic metal halide light bulbs that actually produce over 100% more light but use 40% less electricity.

Wendy Siporen | Director, The Rogue Initiative for a Vital Economy (THRIVE)

Wendy Siporen has served as the Director of Thrive, the Rogue Initiative for a Vital Economy since 2001. Her work with Thrive coincides with a career change, having worked as a reporter and editor for the Ashland Daily Tidings, the Mail Tribune and as a correspondent for the Oregonian. Prior to that Wendy worked for the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, a bipartisan group of Members of Congress working to educate and advocate for key women’s issues in Congressional legislation and federal programs.

Joseph P. Danko | Senior Vice President/Global Director of Sustainable Solutions, CH2M Hill

Joseph P. Danko

Jo has extensive experience developing and implementing new businesses for CH2M HILL, including participating in the development and startup of a Nondestructive Evaluation/Nondestructive Testing (NDE/NDT) company for CH2M HILL with Bristol Bay Native Corporation in Alaska, developing and providing senior leadership in growing CH2M HILL’s total water management business in Alberta, Canada, and leading the evaluation and launch of an industrial “zero waste” (byproduct synergy) initiative in CH2M HILL. Mr. Danko has full service experience from project development through contract operations. He is a senior program manager and has conducted numerous process engineering assignments. His experience spans numerous industries and includes waste minimization, energy efficiency, by-product synergy and extensive water treatment and reuse.

Rob Bennett | Founding Executive Director, Portland Sustainability Institute

Rob Bennett

Rob is the founding executive director of the Portland SustainabilityInstitute. He comes most recently from the Clinton Climate Initiative, where he was the residential and cities policy manager, developing comprehensive residential pilot programs for the cities of Houston and Chicago. In that role, Rob also provided technical assistance to cities throughout North America in the areas of climate change reductions and building performance policy. Prior to that, he spent eight years working directly for the cities of Vancouver, B.C. and Portland, OR. He led the development of Vancouvers comprehensive Green Building Strategy and facilitated the green building and infrastructure activities for the Southeast False Creek redevelopment ? better known as the 2010 Olympic Village. In Portland, Rob founded the Citys Green Building Program, G/Rated, and led conservation program and policy development in the areas of energy efficiency and corporate sustainability. Rob is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts?Amherst School of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning. He has served on the boards of the Cascadia Region Green Building Council and REACH Community Development.

Sattie Clark | Co-Founder, Eleek, Inc.

Sattie Clark

Sattie Clark is the co-founder and co-owner of Eleek, Inc., a design and manufacturing business that makes low-energy lighting and other decorative building products from recycled and locally sourced materials. Sattie guides the marketing and sustainability efforts of the company while her husband and business partner, Eric Kaster, focuses on design and production. Sattie is also the co-founder and president of Voice for Oregon Innovation & Sustainability, a one year old non-profit business alliance that supports sustainable, forward-thinking business leaders through policy advocacy, education, leadership cultivation, civic interaction and community building, as it strives to create a prosperous economic future for the region. VOIS Alliance is nearly a year old and is growing steadily with more than 80 members at this time. Prior to starting Eleek and VOIS, Sattie was a professional musician for many years, playing in a rock band called 17 Reasons Why that Musician magazine called "one of the best unsigned bands in America." The band, of course, broke up soon after that. Now she plays music at home with her six year old son.

Alysa Rose | President & CEO, Rejuvenation

Alysa Rose

Alysa Rose joined Rejuvenation in 2001 as head of the Marketing department and now serves as President & CEO. Alysa brings to Rejuvenation a strong background in developing national branded products and multi-channel marketing. Prior to joining Rejuvenation, she worked in brand management at Colgate Palmolive before moving to Portland in 1993 and holding senior marketing positions at Transitions for Health. Alysa holds an undergraduate degree from Tufts University and an MBA from Cornell University. Before joining Rejuvenation Alysa was attracted to old homes and old neighborhoods but, she admits, couldn’t articulate why. Now she has full appreciation for the impact period-authentic lighting and house parts can have on all types of homes; and the impact that carefully restored homes have on old neighborhoods; and the impact that old neighborhoods have on community. When she is able to find quiet in her home life, Alysa mentally “upgrades” every room in the house and always includes Rejuvenation products. Slowly but surely, she is making her old-house dreams come true.

Craig Messmer | Director of Research and Development, Gingerich Farms

Craig is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has been in the food industry for 18 years. Craig is a native born Oregonian and has been at Gingerich Farm for the last 9 years. Craig is in charge of frozen fruit export business development as well as product development for Gingerich Farms. Gingerich Farms is the small business winner of the 2010 Governor's Sustainability Awards.

Tammi Olund | Vice President and Senior Marketing Manager, First Independent

Tammi Olund

First Independent’s marketing team is led by Tammi Olund, Vice President and Senior Marketing Manager. Olund joined First Independent in 2006 as retail brand and marketing manager and public relations officer. Previously, she held positions of leadership in communications with the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon in Beaverton and United Way of the Columbia-Willamette in Portland. Olund holds a BA in journalism from the University of Oregon and an MA from California State University, Chico. She serves on the board of Educational Opportunities for Children & Families in Vancouver, WA. Olund is a resident of Lake Oswego.

Tom Kelly | President, Neil Kelly Company

Tom Kelly

Tom Kelly grew up in the family remodeling business founded by his father, Neil. He started as a laborer and truck driver during his high school years. Tom attended the University of Oregon as a business major. Tom was named Production Manager in 1976, and was made President in 1979 when his dad suffered a heart attack. In the years since, Tom has built the business into the region’s largest residential remodeling firm.

Marie Franklin | Director of Marketing, Portland Roasting Coffee Company

Marie’s career in specialty coffee spans more than 25 years and includes almost all aspects of the business, from roasting to retailing to wholesale sales and marketing. She moved from humble beginnings with small artisan roasters to larger organizations such as Torrefazione Italia and Seattle’s Best Coffee. Her position as Director of Sales & Marketing at Portland Roasting provides Marie the opportunity to meld her passion for the beverage with a deeper connection to the coffee farmers and communities abroad. Marie oversees national and international sales, all marketing efforts as well as customer education and quality control.

Peter Novak | Vice President and Senior Lender, Enterprise Cascadia

Peter Novak joined Enterprise Cascadia as a Senior Lender. From the Portland office located at SW Washington & 11th St., Novak is responsible for serving a broader geography spanning from the Lower Columbia (Astoria, Oregon and the coast) down the I-5 corridor. His key focus is to grow EC’s presence in greater Portland metro and surrounding areas by looking at opportunities to work with and provide financing to a range of businesses and other organizations. Mr. Novak returned to Enterprise Cascadia in July 2010 after serving as Assistant Vice President- Business Banking Relationship Manager for Wells Fargo bank in Salem, Oregon. He was active with the local United Way, Family Building Blocks and other community organizations and also served as a student mentor for Willamette University’s graduate business school. He joined Wells Fargo after a decade of progressive positions within the commercial banking, treasury management and electronic banking groups of Toronto Dominion Bank headquartered in Toronto, Canada.

Dari Jongsma

Dari is an owner of Agri-Plas, Inc., a company that has been in the business of recycling waste plastic, primarily from agricultural sources in the Willamette Valley for the past 15 years. Agri-Plas is located near Brooks, Oregon on 10 acres of land with offices and four 12,000 square-foot buildings that house plastic processing, recycling equipment and storage space. Agri-Plas has been recognized for exceptional innovation and contribution to the plastics recycling industry by the US Environmental Protection Agency's GreenScapes award program. They have received the Portland Business Journal Innovations in Sustainability Award, the Association of Oregon Recyclers Business of the Year Award, and other awards and recognitions for their contribution and leadership in the recycling industry.
